"Go Deep" - Luke 5:1-11
One of my favorite Christian songs right now is “Oceans (Where Feet May Fall)” by Hillsong United. I couldn’t help but think of this song when I read this passage from Luke 5:1-11. For me, it all comes down to trust. How much do really I trust God? Can I truly Go Deep with God?
The academic school year is upon us, and I can’t help but feel like I’m already behind, and there are so many things that need to get done. But, how much of this business and calendar-filling stuff is actually distracting me from opportunities to go deep with God? How do I respond when Jesus tells me to “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch?” Do I respond like Simon and say that I’ve been busy all day doing this and that? Do I respond with a hesitant, “O.k., if you say so I will, but,” as if I know better than Jesus. This is where trust comes in.
Do I really trust God enough to do what is asked of me and go deep? If I can muster up enough trust to actually go deep with God, do I expect to fail or succeed? What would it mean to trust God fully and have great expectations? Well, there’s only one way to find out…we have to “Go deep” with God. Let’s see what God reveals. Let’s see what great things can be done in the name of Jesus Christ!
