About Us

The Wesley Foundation of San Antonio (Formerly the United Methodist Campus Ministry SAUMCM) is an outreach of the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church to students and faculty of colleges and universities in the area of San Antonio, Texas.

The Wesley S.A. first began on the campus of San Antonio College in 1957. The United Methodist Student Center located at the corner of Dewey and Belknap directly across from SAC campus has provided spiritual guidance and renewal to students and faculty for nearly 60 years.

The Wesley S.A. now has on-campus registered student organizations at San Antonio College (SAC), Trinity University, and The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). In addition to regularly scheduled campus events, we offer off-campus activities and partner with surrounding local churches and non-profits.

Our Team

Ministry Administrator: Brenda Meneses

Brenda Meneses started working part-time in 2009 for a few months, before becoming a full-time employee at the United Methodist Student Center.
Brenda came from Bolivia to the U.S. when she was 15 years old along with her immediate family. After graduating from Jusdon HS., she worked for 2 private companies before enrolling at SAC, where she graduated with an Associates Degree in Computer Programing, with a Certificate in ORACLE (SQL Database).
While a student at SAC, she became an intern for this UMCM. She felt blessed to be able to participate in many Mission Projects (local and abroad) and to fall in love with Campus Ministry and the lifelong friends that I met there.
After graduating from SAC, she became a Board Member to continue being part of UMCM, while working independently.  Then, the new Director at the time needed assistance, and asked her to come on part-time which afterwards became full time Administrative Assistant. Now, Brenda can be there for students and give as she received.
When she is not working, she is interacting with the students, or working on a project. She enjoys spending time with family, and traveling or building things. She also regularly Skypes with her sister and new niece in Arizona. Brenda enjoys playing with her cats and helping animals in need. Brenda is also active at Universal City UMC, especially on the Scholarship Ministry Team.

Program Coordinator: J. Alex Ruiz

J. Alex Ruiz came to work for the Wesley in 2012 by way of a friend and has been part of the organization ever since. He has enjoyed being part of planning and taking part in our Hot Potato informative discussions, mission trips, retreats, worship band and much more. As an avid musician he works to help lead music during worship and mission trips. A life long student of archaeology and anthropology Alex has continued to pursue this line of study and now makes historical items as a professional blacksmith and bladesmith. He was featured on the History Channel Show "Forged in Fire" and brought home a win. When he's not at the Wesley he can be found in his shop "Volundr Forge" or working/teaching with other blacksmithing/bladesmithing organizations.

Campus Minister (SAC) Rev. Valerie Vogt

Valerie is an Associate Pastor at Travis Park United Methodist Church and joined the Wesley staff at San Antonio College in the Fall of 2018. While Valerie grew up in the Bay Area of California and attended college at The University of California, Davis, she loves calling Texas home. Valerie and her husband, also an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, met at Duke Divinity School and moved to Austin soon after they were married. Valerie has served as a Youth Director, Director of Missions, and Associate Pastor with four congregations in Central Texas. Her passion is helping people to grow in their love for God, discern their gifts, and use their resources to partner with and bless others. Valerie and Eric spend a lot of time chasing their two young boys. She loves running, yoga, reading, cooking and enjoying good food, and watching t.v. and movies that tell great stories.

Campus Minister (UTSA) Lo Alaman

Lo Alaman is an artist, speaker, campus ministry director, and Laker fan most days of the week. Whether preaching, spitting poetry, or just chilling with new best friends, Lo seeks to create moments to minister the love of Jesus in every space he enters.
